Chartres Cathedral and The Labyrinth

Built on a sacred site, some consider the Cathedral of Chartres to be one of the most spiritual places in the world! Learn about the history of the cathedral, including the Royal Portal with its masterpieces of medieval art, and the contrasting towers, one Romanesque the other Gothic.

Hear the stories about life in this medieval village during the 13th century, the history of the world-famous Column-Statues and the timeless mysteries of Chartres. Once inside the cathedral, you will marvel at the magnificent stained-glass windows with their secret blue color.

Unravel the mysteries of the great Labyrinth of Chartres--a pattern in stone on the floor of the nave as large as the grand rose window. Thousands of people from the medieval ages to the present day have come to walk on this labyrinth. Every effort will be made to book a private evening candlelight walk on the Chartres Labyrinth to the sound of medieval music--a once in a lifetime experience!

Labyrinths have been found all over the world, in a variety of countries and cultures and have been used for many purposes. The earliest known labyrinth is over 4,000 years old, and derives from a meander pattern which can be traced back to artifacts from c.18,000 BC!
